Slice Tool(Shortcut key -C)

Slice tools is very important for web designers. The Slice tool to help cut or cuts in parts of the images for web publishing. In Photoshop CS3 Slice tool is next to the crop tool. In Photoshop CS4 and CS5 was with the Crop tool. If you can not see the cutting tool, right click on the icon of the crop tool, you can see the cutting tool. Cutting tool can also be activated by pressing the “C”.

Slice Tool

Long after the activation of the cutting tool, you can drag a rectangle by holding down the mouse button. You can also move and resize the active part.

To move an active segment of only a few pixels, use the arrow keys on your keyboard or press and hold the mouse button and move the sector.

To change the size of the slice, the cursor on the border, we see that the cursor changes, now you just click and drag to any size you want.
Slice Select tool

Slice Select tool can not be used to cut the images, but help add information to an image or a slice. Unless you can cut all the other functions (ie resizing and movement).

Activate the cutting tool, if you can not see, right click on the icon of the cutting tool can be seen. Now just double click on any of the division, you get a dialog box. To get this dialog box you can also use the cutting tool. With the cutting tool selected, simply right click on any of the slice and select Edit Division or you can also double click in the division.

Dialog Box Options

1st Option – Slice Type: you can select image or no image. If you select image, when saving the image, that particular slice gets saved as a image, if you have selected no images in slice type then when saving the image, that particular slice will be omitted.

 2nd Option -  Name , here you can enter a name for each slice.

3rd Option – URL, you can enter a web address(eg. http://www.onside.in), if this image is shown in website, and when some clicks that image, it will take to the address that you specify here.

4th Option – Target , The value of target can be _blank, _new, _parent, _self, _top.

Then you can see the serving size if you want to change, you can simply change the value of the width (W) and height (H). When finished, simply click OK.
